Changing the character of Australia

Today, Australia’s record migration intake continues, despite government promises to meaningfully cut back, which is placing immense pressure on our economic and social infrastructure.

The Institute of Public Affairs’ Deputy Executive Director, Daniel Wild, and Chief Economist & Co-founder of MacroBusiness, Leith van Onselen, discuss the current state of Australia’s migration program.

Leith is one of Australia’s foremost economists and commentators on economic issues. He has previously worked at the Australian Treasury, Victorian Treasury and Goldman Sachs.

Australia has a proud reputation as a welcoming society, however out-of-control migration intakes have not been properly planned for, are lacking the consent of the community, and are straining critical social infrastructure.

Daniel and Leith also discuss recent attempts by the ABC and Australian Burau of Statistics to shut down the debate about the federal government’s out-of-control migration program.
